New Artist: Ayun … An Inspirational Piece “I’ll See You”

Instrumental, Piano

Ayun hails from Brussels, Belgium and composer Yannick brings to life the depth of emotion in each piece.  I randomly discovered Ayun (Ayun4) on Sound Cloud, which, I can say has been a great avenue for me in discovering new artists and music.

I was impressed by the piece, “I’ll See You”.  This instrumental composition surprised me with a solo piano introduction that pulled me in. It felt sad and lonely; however, the turning point came at 0:56 with a quick transition to a blossom of instrumentation.   A point of epiphany: the realization that trials, difficulties and loss can become triumphs, because the lesson was in the journey, not the destination.  When the piece returns to piano at 3:50, it is more uplifting: Bringing in an additional piano track, signifying that we are not alone in the journey…no matter the loss.   At 4:05 a celebration results from making it through the journey.  In the end, a positive victory.

After reading the motivation for this piece, it became clear that Yannick’s emotion regarding the death of the family dog was upsetting.  Yet, Yannick wanted to preserve the memories and celebrate that which was a great influence in his life.

Overall, the piece was well orchestrated and even though the starting tempo reminded me of a funeral dirge— which fits well with the catalytic event— a faster tempo would have drawn me in more.

Ayun’s music is composed on computer and Iphone.  I’ll See You was just one of several instrumental pieces that piqued my interest.  To experience the range of  Yannick’s compositions, I suggest listening to Joyride, Search for Light, and Go On !

Yannick’s life has not been an easy one.  As a person who suffers from Spinal Muscular Atrophy; Yannick must alter the ways he composes music, whereas many composers take their own fine motor skills for granted.  I applaud him for striving towards his dreams and goals.

“…the REAL GOAL is to show the world that even paralyzed, we can achieve big things. CAUSE THE MIND IS STRONGER THAN THE BODY.” ~ Yannick of Ayun

Far East Movement Releases Club Banger “Bang It To The Curb”

Rating: PG-13

The scene: scantily dressed girls, stilt heels slugging, a simple and predictable hip hop beat filters through the JBL speakers.  Bodies are swaying to the music: A yawn occurs.  People remove themselves from the dance floor…boredom ensues.  Quick-witted, the DJ fades in a deep 808 kick drum bass and transitions to “Bang It To The Curb” by the Far East Movement.  The crowd piles onto the dance floor and soon the girls are showing their top rocks moves before they drop to the floor, heels no longer impeding their movement.

The Far East Movement is most known for their platinum selling #1 hit “Like A G6.”  Their rise to the top in 2010 gave them a first for an Asian-American group.  Since then, they have continued to create music loved by their fans and most currently enjoyed success with their single “The Illest” featuring Riff Raff.

Released in early January, “Bang It To The Curb” is an all-out club smash.  Though still growing momentum, those that love to dance will appreciate the instant desire to get one’s swerve on when the bass line hits.  The synthesizer cuts in with a brass-like rapid fire motif and, once again, the producer Sidney Samson strikes gold.  The Far East Movement is not new to working with producer Sidney Samson having collaborated with him, among others, on their last album Dirty Bass.  This Dutch House master provided the group with a delicious electro-trap beat, that may just slide them back onto the charts.

The Far East Movement has not been known for their insightful lyrics and “Bang It To The Curb” is not an exception.   It is mass market music, talking about a night on the town, a bottle of Remy Martin and smoking weed.  These are not new topics in the genre, though their hook is brilliant and a shout out to where they got their start,  L.A., will always win fans.   This song is not meant to be about sophistication, politics or the hardships of real life:  It’s about having fun, of which, it works magic.

“Bang It To The Curb” is part of their forthcoming EP KTown Riots.  A release date has not been mentioned, but if this song is any indication of music on the EP, I’m down to download as soon as it hits.
